Siemens UFC Detector Module
Ultra Fast Ceramic scintillator module — the detector hardware that shipped across the Siemens Sensation and Definition CT generations (and the 16-slice Emotion). Replaced gadolinium-oxysulfide (GOS) scintillators with a proprietary ceramic that enables fast afterglow decay and supports the high projection readout rate z-Sharp flying focal spot requires. Module failures present as ring artifacts, specific channel dropouts, or afterglow-related image quality degradation.

Diagnosis
- Ring artifact — most often a UFC channel. Run detector calibration; if fails, isolate to a specific detector slice.
- Full-width banding — DAS cable or backplane rather than UFC module directly; reseat before pulling detector modules.
- Afterglow / image-latency issues — rare but scintillator-specific; UFC's fast afterglow is a defining feature, degradation is a module-replacement signal.
Replacement
Module-level replacement. Detector-assembly alignment and detector calibration mandatory post-swap. Siemens-specific part numbers differ by CT slice count and generation; Sensation 16 UFC modules are not interchangeable with Definition AS 128-slice modules.
