Philips EPIQ Elite

Family: Philips EPIQ · Modality: Ultrasound

Current Philips premium cart ultrasound for general imaging, women's health, vascular, MSK, and shared-service environments. Successor-class to the EPIQ 5/7 generation; launched 2019. Companion to the dedicated cardiovascular EPIQ CVx on the same core platform.

Platform architecture

  • nSIGHT Imaging — beam-forming and image-formation architecture that replaced the legacy line-by-line beamformer. Parallel processing across every pixel on every frame delivers uniform resolution across the full field of view (center and edge) rather than the off-axis roll-off characteristic of earlier beamformers.
  • xMATRIX transducers — 2D matrix-array transducers capable of 2D, 3D/4D, Live xPlane (biplane), Live MPR, Doppler, and color Doppler through a single probe.
  • PureWave crystal technology — single-crystal transducer material for sensitivity and bandwidth improvements vs conventional PZT, particularly for technically difficult patients.
  • Advanced quantification — MicroFlow Imaging (slow-flow detection), shear wave elastography (ElastQ), fusion with CT / MR, and AI-assisted anatomical intelligence (AIUS-suite) applications.

Transducer portfolio (xMATRIX + PureWave highlights)

  • X5-1 (1–5 MHz) — adult cardiac xMATRIX.
  • X6-1 (1–6 MHz) — abdominal, OB, GYN, fetal, vascular.
  • X7-2t (2–7 MHz) — adult TEE.
  • X8-2t (2–8 MHz) — advanced xMATRIX TEE.
  • XL14-3 (3–14 MHz) — vascular / small-parts linear xMATRIX.
  • S5-1 (1–5 MHz) — adult cardiac PureWave.
  • S8-3 / S12-4 — pediatric / neonatal cardiac PureWave.

Broad frequency coverage from 1 MHz (deep cardiac) to 18 MHz (superficial).

System specs

  • Cart-based console, ~230 lb (without peripherals)
  • 24" HD MAX display
  • Frequency range 1–18 MHz (transducer-dependent)
  • nSIGHT Imaging beamformer
  • Proprietary Philips ultrasound OS

Clinical positioning

Premium shared-service cart for radiology / general imaging, OB-GYN, vascular, MSK, and emergency work. Common configuration alongside an EPIQ CVx in larger hospitals — Elite covers non-cardiac, CVx covers adult cardiology, sharing xMATRIX transducers where applicable.

Relationship to siblings

  • EPIQ CVx — cardiovascular sibling on the same core platform.
  • Philips iU22 / iE33 — legacy premium carts displaced by the EPIQ class; still prevalent in refurb.
  • Philips Lumify — tablet / handheld counterpart for point-of-care.
