Philips Azurion (family)

Philips's current-generation interventional imaging platform — introduced 2017 as the successor to the Allura Xper / Allura Clarity families. Shared platform characteristics: ClarityIQ image processing standard, FlexVision large-format monitor, ConnectOS workstation ecosystem, and IntelliSpace integration. Top-three globally in fixed interventional X-ray alongside Siemens Artis and GE Innova / IGS.

History

  • 2004 — predecessor Allura Xper launches.
  • 2008 — Allura Clarity adds licensed dose-reduction layer.
  • 2017Azurion ships, succeeding Allura. ClarityIQ standard, FlexVision display, ConnectOS workflow.
  • Late 2010sFlexArm robotic / floor-mounted variant for larger working envelope.
  • 2020s — continued software and workflow refinement; Azurion HE upgrade path retrofits Allura installs to Azurion-class software / workstation.

Variants

  • Azurion 3 — entry, 12" detector class. Single-plane diagnostic / cardiac focus.
  • Azurion 5 — mid, 15" detector. General cardiac / vascular / IR.
  • Azurion 7 — top, 20" detector; available single-plane and biplane. Peripheral vascular, neuro biplane, hybrid OR.
  • Azurion FlexArm — robotic / floor-mounted variant.

Shared platform characteristics

  • Image processing: ClarityIQ standard — 43–83% dose reduction vs Xper generation at equivalent image quality.
  • Monitor: FlexVision large-format 58" 4K display, software-configurable layout during procedure.
  • Hemodynamics: Xper IM; third-party integration via HL7.
  • Workflow: ConnectOS architecture with parallel control-room + exam-room operation; ProcedureCards, touch-screen Control Module table-side.
  • Upgrade path: Allura Xper R8.2 → Azurion HE upgrade retains gantry, generator, detector, table; replaces workstation + software + hemodynamics.
  • Tube class: GIGALIX MRC on higher-configuration rooms.

Distinctive technology

  • ClarityIQ standard — dose-reduction posture out of the box (vs Allura where Clarity was licensed). Career-cumulative operator dose materially shifts.
  • FlexVision — single 58" 4K display replaces multi-monitor walls; software-driven video matrix routing during a case.
  • ConnectOS parallel workflow — case turnover meaningfully faster than predecessor.
  • IGS / EchoNavigator / VesselNavigator / StentBoost / 3D-RA / XperCT — per-application entitlements layered onto the base platform.

Predecessor

  • Allura Xper family — large legacy installed base; Azurion HE upgrade pathway preserves significant capital.

Clinical applications

Refurb posture

  • Newer line — refurb supply small as installed base is younger.
  • Detector size (12 / 15 / 20") is the primary clinical-scope variable.
  • Application-license tier (XperCT, EchoNavigator, IGS) is the price-determining variable.
  • Allura → Azurion HE upgrade preserves gantry / generator / detector / table — refurb pricing should reflect retained-hardware history, not a reset clock.
