glossaryDental CBCT

CBCT (dental)

Dental cone-beam CT — volumetric imaging for dental implants, endodontics (root-canal anatomy), orthognathic / orthodontic planning, TMJ assessment, sinus / airway evaluation, and impacted-tooth localization. Compact, in-office capable, lower-dose than medical CT.

Why it matters to buyers: Lower dose than medical CT; higher resolution for fine bone detail at the relevant field of view. FOV size (small / mid / large) is the platform-tier decision — small for endo / single-implant, large for full-arch and orthognathic.

Why it matters to engineers: Beam hardening and scatter artifacts around metal restorations are a known issue; modern reconstruction helps but doesn't eliminate. Detector aging and tube calibration drift are routine service events.
