Planmeca's flagship dental cone-beam CT family — multiple FOV tiers from single-tooth imaging up to full maxillofacial coverage (TMJ, airway, full-arch orthognathic). Panoramic + cephalometric + CBCT combined on most variants in a "3-in-1" configuration common in implant-focused, oral-surgery, and orthodontic offices. Co-leader globally with Dentsply Sirona Orthophos in dental imaging.

History

  • Late 2000s — ProMax 3D launches as Planmeca's CBCT-capable dental imaging platform.
  • 2010s — FOV-tier expansion (Classic / Mid / Max) covers single-implant through orthognathic.
  • 2020s — Viso premium platform extends the line; ProMax 3D continues as the workhorse for mid-market dental.

Refurb posture

  • FOV tier is fixed at manufacture — a small-FOV ProMax 3D Classic does not field-upgrade to Max.
  • Software / Romexis version status is the price-determining variable on used deals.
  • Tube hours and detector age track usage; heavy ortho practices wear faster than implant-focused ones.
  • DICOM export hygiene is a Planmeca strength — used units integrate cleanly with third-party planning software.
