cephalometric
Lateral skull radiograph used in orthodontic planning. Standardized geometry — patient positioned in a cephalostat with fixed source-to-detector distance — enables reproducible measurements (cephalometric analysis: ANB, SNA, SNB, Wits appraisal, etc.) for orthodontic and orthognathic-surgery planning.
Why it matters to buyers: Standard ortho workup. Often the third modality on dental units that offer pano + CBCT (3-in-1 dental imaging units).
Why it matters to engineers: Measurement accuracy depends on geometric calibration. The cephalostat positioning hardware drifts over time; annual physicist verification.
