probe port
Physical receptacle on an ultrasound cart where a transducer connects. Premium carts have 3–4 active probe ports for rapid swapping between exam types without manual disconnection.
Why it matters to buyers: Connector pins wear with cycling. Try another port before blaming the probe on "not recognized" or intermittent faults — port issues are common, often resolvable with cleaning or reseating.
Why it matters to engineers: Port electronics differ by cart — xMATRIX-capable ports support matrix probes; legacy ports do not. The cart's port-electronics tier is part of platform-version due-diligence on a refurb.
