linear array
Flat-footprint ultrasound probe with parallel elements. High-frequency (5–18 MHz typical) — short-range, fine-detail imaging at the cost of penetration. Used for vascular, MSK, breast, thyroid, scrotal, and pediatric imaging where the target is shallow.
Why it matters to buyers: L12-5 (Philips) is the iconic example. Vascular clinics, MSK / sports medicine practices, and breast / small-parts radiology live on linear probes. L18-5, L9-3, and various other linear configurations cover frequency / depth combinations.
Why it matters to engineers: Lens delamination is the common failure mode — avoid aggressive disinfection chemicals. High-frequency lenses are thin and damage easily; replacement / refurb economics favorable.
