glossaryUltrasound

endocavity

Small-diameter curved or microconvex ultrasound probe designed for internal-cavity imaging — transvaginal (TV), transrectal (TR), and (mounted on a flexible endoscope) transesophageal echocardiography (TEE). Higher frequency than abdominal probes (5–10 MHz typical) for shorter-range imaging close to the probe surface.

Why it matters to buyers: OB / GYN and urology essential. TV / TR probes are the workhorse for first-trimester OB, gyne pelvic pain workup, and prostate biopsy. Disinfection protocols are stricter than surface probes — high-level disinfection (Trophon, Cidex OPA) per use.

Why it matters to engineers: Lens wears from disinfection cycles faster than surface probes. Inspect at every clinical session — lens damage and connector wear are the dominant failure modes.
