FFDM
Full-Field Digital Mammography — digital 2D mammography. Replaced screen-film mammography as the reimbursed standard in the 2000s. Direct-conversion amorphous-selenium panels (Hologic, Siemens) or CsI scintillator on a-Si (GE, Fujifilm) capture the X-ray exposure digitally.
Why it matters to buyers: Default screening and diagnostic mammography modality. All new mammography systems are FFDM, paired with optional 3D tomosynthesis and C-View synthesized 2D.
Why it matters to engineers: MQSA accreditation + annual physicist testing mandatory for U.S. clinical use.
