C-View
Hologic's synthesized 2D image, reconstructed from the 3D tomosynthesis projection set rather than a separate 2D exposure. FDA-approved 2013 — eliminates the dose-doubling that paired-acquisition (separate 2D + 3D) originally required, while preserving the 2D reading the radiologist uses for screening interpretation. Other vendors have analogous synthesized-2D products under different brand names (e.g., Siemens Insight 2D, GE V-Preview).
Why it matters to buyers: Significant dose reduction at matched clinical interpretation — typically the difference between a paired 2D + 3D exam and a 3D-only exam is roughly 2× the dose, and C-View closes that gap. Licensed separately from hardware and tomosynthesis; confirm explicitly in writing on any refurb deal.
Why it matters to engineers: Requires later software revisions on Selenia Dimensions; older platforms may not support C-View even with current detector hardware. Synthesized 2D is software-driven; nothing in the imaging chain produces it without licensing.
