Siemens MAGNETOM Free.Max 0.55T

Manufacturer: Siemens Healthineers · Modality: MRI

0.55 T high-performance low-field MRI with an 80 cm bore — the widest in clinical MRI. Deep-learning reconstruction (Deep Resolve) compensates for the inherent SNR gap versus 1.5 T, enabling clinically useful images at a field strength that previously wasn't competitive. Ships as a lighter, lower-siting-requirement installation than mainstream 1.5 T / 3 T — a key purchase driver.

Why 0.55 T matters

  • 80 cm bore — bariatric, pediatric with parent-in-gantry, interventional MR, claustrophobic patients. No other clinical MRI offers this aperture.
  • Reduced siting demands — lower cryogen inventory, smaller 5-gauss footprint, lighter gradient / RF subsystems. The 5-gauss-line contraction is meaningful in footprint-constrained sites (cath-lab adjacency, clinic-sited MRI).
  • Susceptibility advantage — lower field reduces susceptibility artifact near metal; lung MRI and near-implant imaging are clinically viable where they struggle at 1.5 T / 3 T.
  • Deep Resolve — deep-learning reconstruction is a load-bearing assumption of the platform; without it, 0.55 T SNR would not meet current clinical expectations.

Specs

  • 0.55 T · 80 cm bore
  • Gradient set tuned for 0.55 T physics (lower amplitudes than clinical 1.5 T)
  • Tim 4G coil platform (subset supported)
  • syngo MR XA host
  • Deep Resolve image reconstruction (core to the platform)
  • Helium-minimal sealed magnet design (reduced cryogen vs legacy magnets)

Clinical positioning

  • Replacement for open / low-field — displaces legacy 0.2–0.35 T open MRI in bariatric / claustrophobic workflows with image quality that's closer to 1.5 T than to legacy open magnets.
  • Interventional MR — 80 cm bore plus lower fringe field enable procedures where a standard 1.5 T blocks physical access.
  • Lung and near-metal imaging — physics favors lower field.
  • Community hospital entry point — siting economics bring MRI into rooms that couldn't accept a 1.5 T install.
