Philips Achieva 3.0T

Family: Philips Achieva · Modality: MRI

The Achieva 3T was Philips' pre-Ingenia 3T platform — shipped globally through the late 2000s and early 2010s before the Ingenia dStream digital-coil generation succeeded it. Well-known among researchers and academic clinical sites for the Quasar Dual gradient system, which gives the operator a choice between a high-amplitude or high-slew-rate gradient profile per scan. Substantial global installed base; one of the most common Philips 3T scanners in the secondary market.

Platform highlights

  • 60 cm bore with ultra-short magnet profile.
  • Quasar and Quasar Dual gradient systems — Quasar Dual is the two-mode gradient that defined Achieva 3T:
    • Mode 1: 40 mT/m amplitude at 200 T/m/s slew — slew-optimized (fast EPI, diffusion, fMRI).
    • Mode 2: 80 mT/m amplitude at 100 T/m/s slew — amplitude-optimized (high-b diffusion, spectroscopy, gradient-demanding research protocols).
    • Operator selects mode at scan time; different protocols favor different modes.
  • 16 RF receive channels standard, expandable to 32 channels with MultiTransmit parallel RF transmission (reduces B1 inhomogeneity at 3T and shortens certain body sequences).
  • SENSE parallel imaging from the Philips platform lineage; essential for cardiac MR, DTI, and dynamic contrast workflows.
  • Max FOV 50 × 50 × 45 cm.
  • Zero boil-off helium magnet — meaningful cryogen-economics improvement over legacy helium-loss magnets.
  • Patient-table capacity 250 kg (horizontal motion) / 150 kg (vertical motion).

Specs

  • 3 T · 60 cm bore · <4600 kg magnet weight
  • Quasar Dual gradients (mode-selectable, 40/200 or 80/100)
  • 16 RF channels standard, 32 optional with MultiTransmit
  • Zero boil-off helium
  • SENSE parallel imaging
  • Max FOV 50 × 50 × 45 cm
  • syngo-lineage host? No — Philips runs its own MR operating environment (ReleaseStream family).

Clinical positioning

  • Academic and research centers — Quasar Dual gradient flexibility attracted research sites pre-Ingenia.
  • Advanced neuro — DTI, fMRI, spectroscopy.
  • Body oncology and prostate — DCE-MRI, diffusion body imaging.
  • Cardiac — SENSE-accelerated cardiac cine and LGE.
  • MSK at 3T — knee, shoulder, wrist at research-grade SNR.

Market position (secondary / refurb)

  • Large global install base. Achieva 3T is Philips' most common 3T scanner on the refurb market; competitive with Siemens Sensation / Symphony-era 3T and GE Signa HDx 3T.
  • Service ecosystem — Philips OEM service remains available; multi-vendor service coverage on the F2000-class magnet and Quasar gradient family is mature.
  • Successor pathwayPhilips Ingenia 3T (dStream digital coil architecture) succeeded Achieva 3T in new orders; Philips Ingenia Elition 3T is the current premium successor.
