Hitachi Echelon (family)
Modality: MRI
Hitachi's closed-bore 1.5T MRI workhorse line — the conventional-bore counterpart to the Oasis 1.2T open superconducting and the Airis II open low-field platforms. Strong installed base in Japan, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America; smaller but durable U.S. presence. Acquired by Fujifilm in 2021 and continues under Fujifilm Healthcare branding.
Variants
- Echelon Smart — mid-tier 1.5T workhorse, 60 cm bore.
- Echelon Smart Plus — refresh tier with workflow improvements.
- Echelon Oval — 71 cm wide-bore variant; targets bariatric / claustrophobic populations.
- Echelon Vega — premium tier (selected markets).
Distinctive technology
- Pianissimo acoustic-reduction technology — quieter scans than competing platforms; meaningful in pediatric / neuro populations and clinically relevant patient comfort.
- WIT (Workflow Integration Technology) — automated patient-positioning and scan-prescription tools.
- RADAR motion-correction techniques on selected sequences.
- Helium-managed magnet — conventional design with periodic refill cadence (varies by Hitachi-era platform).
Refurb posture
- Established refurb supply — large installed base in markets where Hitachi held strong share. Regional service-network depth varies.
- Coil inventory is the practical clinical-capability variable; multi-channel torso, head, spine coils carry meaningful refurb value.
- Software version drives advanced-application availability (DTI, MR spectroscopy where licensed).
- Brand continuity — Hitachi-era and Fujifilm-era units coexist; service is unified under Fujifilm Healthcare post-2021.
