Tim 4G

Siemens' fourth-generation Total imaging matrix coil and receive platform. Introduced on MAGNETOM Aera / Skyra (2010) and carried across the current Sola / Lumina / Vida / Prisma BioMatrix lineup. Tim 4G supports up to 204 coil matrix elements and 32 (or higher on Prisma) simultaneous RF receive channels, enabling high-acceleration parallel imaging and multi-anatomy single-exam workflows without coil swaps.

Why it matters to buyers: Tim 4G coils are cross-compatible across the current Siemens MRI chassis family (with platform-appropriate variants). Pre-Tim Siemens coils (Symphony Quantum era) are not compatible with Tim 4G systems and vice versa — acceptance-test coil inventory always needs platform verification.

Why it matters to engineers: Tim 4G channel-count is a platform-capability metric; higher-channel scanners (Prisma's 64-channel receive) support research acceleration protocols that lower-channel scanners cannot. Channel-by-channel RF testing is part of periodic QC.
