MPPS
Modality Performed Procedure Step — DICOM message from the modality to RIS announcing procedure start / complete / discontinue. Closes the workflow loop between modality and information system: the RIS knows the procedure actually happened (and what was performed), enabling billing reconciliation and exam-status tracking.
Why it matters to buyers: Closes the loop — RIS knows what actually happened on the modality. Billing and workflow benefit. Inconsistent MPPS reporting is a leading cause of worklist / billing reconciliation problems.
Why it matters to engineers: Not all modalities implement MPPS uniformly. Check the device's DICOM conformance statement; test in the acceptance integration check.
