gantry aperture

Diameter of the opening in the CT gantry through which the patient table passes. 70 cm is the standard clinical bore; 78–82 cm wide-bore is increasingly common (oncology simulation, bariatric, trauma, interventional CT).

Why it matters to buyers: Wider bore supports bariatric patients, interventional CT (CT-guided biopsy, ablation), and oncology simulation (radiation-therapy planning with patient in immobilization device). Most diagnostic CTs are 70 cm; wide-bore is a meaningful tier upgrade for selected programs.

Why it matters to engineers: Gantry aperture affects maximum scan field of view (SFOV) and positioning flexibility. Wide-bore systems have specific siting requirements (room dimensions, door clearance for the heavier gantry).
