CW Doppler

Continuous-wave Doppler — measures peak velocities beyond PW Doppler aliasing limits. The trade-off: no range-gate, so the velocity measured is along the entire beam path rather than at a defined depth. Cardiac essential for high-velocity flow quantification — aortic stenosis peak velocity, mitral regurgitation jet velocity.

Why it matters to buyers: Required for valvular assessment in echocardiography. Standalone CW pencil probes are sometimes included with cardiac platforms for non-imaging spectral measurements.

Why it matters to engineers: No range-gate — measures along the entire beam, so the operator must position carefully for the velocity-of-interest. Operator-skill-dependent measurement.
