CR

Computed Radiography — legacy phosphor-plate-and-reader system that bridged film-screen and direct DR. Photostimulable phosphor plate captures the X-ray exposure; the cassette is then transported to a reader that scans the plate with a laser to produce the digital image. Replaced in most rooms by DR flat-panel detection.

Why it matters to buyers: Phosphor plates must be carried to a reader — slower workflow than DR with significantly longer per-exam cycle. Still installed in many lower-tier hospitals globally; refurb / parts supply mature but no longer growing.

Why it matters to engineers: Most newly installed rooms skip CR. Mobile / emergency fleets occasionally still have CR for redundancy or specialty applications. Plate aging and reader-laser maintenance are the dominant service line items.
