Helium Compressor

Drives the cold head by cycling helium at high/low pressure. Separate unit from the magnet, typically in the equipment room.

Diagnosis

• Low supply or return pressure outside window
• Adsorber past service life — helium gets contaminated, cold head efficiency drops
• Oil present downstream of adsorber = replace immediately

Maintenance

Adsorber replacement every 20,000–30,000 run-hours. Inline filters before that. Skipping these = cold head degradation, not a compressor "failure" per se.
