GE Discovery MI SiPM Detector Module
GE's digital PET detector module — the SiPM-based detector technology that defines the Discovery MI platform and subsequent GE digital PET generations (Omni Legend). Unlike prior PMT-based detectors on Discovery 690 / VCT / STE, SiPM modules use silicon photomultipliers to read out the LBS (lutetium-based scintillator) crystal array. SiPM solid-state architecture enables the Discovery MI's Time-of-Flight performance (~375 ps) and 3/4/5-ring axial-FOV scalability.

Diagnosis
- Module dropout — visible as axial sensitivity loss on daily PET QC.
- SiPM gain drift — solid-state drift pattern, different from PMT gain drift. Temperature sensitivity is a meaningful consideration.
- Timing drift — coincidence-window calibration; affects ToF performance.
- Energy-spectrum per module — standard QC phantom test.
Replacement
Module-level replacement. SiPM modules have different failure modes than PMT-era detectors; post-swap calibration includes energy, uniformity, and ToF-timing normalization. GE OEM service typical.
